MOOCs in some ways seem to have apparent applicability for disciplines that rely primarily on lectures for content delivery and multiple-choice tests for student assessments. How do MOOCs, though, intersect with disciplines grounded on student writing and seminar conversations? How might these and other disciplines integrate more writing into MOOCs? This presentation will share the successes, challenges, and possibilities related to writing and MOOCs that have emerged from our experience designing and teaching Duke’s first writing-intensive MOOC: English Composition I: Achieving Expertise.
