VoiceThread in an Academic Presentations Class

Maria Parker, English for International Students Program Director, was interested in providing speaking time for students outside of class that encouraged spontaneity, was informal, and helped build classroom community. Additionally, Parker wanted to provide more practice opportunities that she could monitor for completion (and respond to if desired) but which would not create additional grading time.

Self-portraits in VoiceThread

Edith (Edie) Allen, a Program Coordinator and faculty member in the English for International Students (EIS) program, wanted to enhance a self portrait project she regularly used in GS 320B, Integrated Oral Communication. She also wanted to create an effective rubric to help assess the assignment.

Give us your feedback on VoiceThread

This year, the Duke Digital Initiative is piloting VoiceThread, online software for commenting on media. Later this Spring, we will be deciding on whether to make VoiceThread a fully-supported tool here at Duke. If you’re using VoiceThread in the Spring or have used it in the past, DDI is seeking your feedback about the tool.
