Training Opportunities for Duke Extend

Duke Extend is a flexible course provider available for use by the Duke community. It is built on the open source platform Open edX. Duke Learning Innovation manages the platform and we can provide personal training on the features as well as get you started with your own course site. If you are a Duke faculty or staff member interested in training, please reach out to us via our department email, learninginnovation@duke.edu, and we can arrange a time and place that works for you.

Training opportunities include advice on how to incorporate video into your course, how to structure content in an online course, and how to create a variety of assessments to match your course topic. We can also tailor the training to best suit the needs of you and your colleagues who are producing content for the course.

If you are interested in learning more about the features before committing to formal training, there is a good playlist of example videos on YouTube, created by Appsembler (unaffiliated with our Learning Innovation team), on how to accomplish several basic tasks in Open edX.

You can also see some examples of current courses offered on Duke Extend by visiting the homepage, extend.duke.edu. Most are open to anyone to view, so feel free to peruse several to see how others on campus are using this new resource!
