Kaltura Media Gallery Files Expire 7/1/2015

As of July 1, 2015 multimedia content stored in the Kaltura Media Gallery tool in Sakai will no longer be available.

Students, staff and faculty who wish to retain their content (images, movies and audio), will need to download those media items out of Kaltura Media Gallery. If you already have a copy of the file(s) on your computer, you do not need to download the file(s) from Sakai.

The replacement tool for Kaltura Media Gallery, Warpwire, is already available for use, either in Sakai or independently.

This document will help you download your files and start a library in Warpwire to start transferring content if you wish.

1. Download media items from Kaltura Media Gallery.

You can only download files if you have the proper permissions to do so. Log into sakai.duke.edu and enter the Media Gallery tool in your Sakai site. Navigate to the item (in a Site Library or a Collection) and click on the item. At the bottom of the player you should find the Download button. You can now save the item to your computer. You may want to save the files to a designated folder on your desktop so that you can find them easily later.

TIP:  You can also use the My Media tab to see a complete list of all items you have ever added to Kaltura Media Gallery instead of clicking between Sakai sites.

2. Getting started with Warpwire.

You have several options when using Warpwire to share your multimedia content.

  • You may choose to wait to upload your files until you create your next Sakai site and turn on the Warpwire tool.
  • You also have the option to create libraries that are independent from Sakai to share with groups (including the courses you teach), individual users, all users with a NetID, or public users. All Warpwire libraries can be shared with users via URL.
