Spring 2013 iPads – French 111, Intensive Elementary French

Language instructors often have a cadre of supplementary materials (such as grammar worksheets, realia, and web content).  Professor Sandra Valnes Quammen wanted to get away from traditional pathways for distributing these materials, such as making photocopies, e-mailing PDFs, etc.  In order to accomplish this, Professor Quammen is planning to use iBooks Author during the Spring, 2013 semester in order to compile supplementary materials for students in her French 111 class.

Here are some of the questions that Professor Quammen hopes to answer this semester:

  1. Does having an iPad to use during class enhance class time?
  2. Does using an iPad outside of class enhance out-of-class work (homework)?
  3. Do students find iPads easy to use, enjoyable?
  4. Are there aspects of foreign language teaching / learning that are better done on an iPad (vs. traditional content-delivery methods)?
