Case studies for engagement and thinking

Paula Lemons, (Biology Division, The University of Georgia) uses cases studies in her courses to teach students how to apply basic knowledge, as well as motivate them and engage them with stories. Recently Paula has been part of an NSF-funded, multi-institution study to measure the impact of clicker case studies on student learning of higher-order thinking skills. Join us to hear some of the lessons learned from this project, for example, what does a valid higher-order question look like and how do you write one. Dr. Lemons was a member of the Biology Department here at Duke before joining the faculty at UGA. She has published two cases in The National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science Case Collection.

Register to join us in Paula’s session on Using Case Studies to Teach Science and Higher-Order Reasoning on April 21st.
