Promote innovative teaching and learning at Duke

  • Hold the annual CIT Showcase on October 13, 2015
  • Provide CIT Fellowships and other faculty support programs to promote active learning and scholarly approaches to assessment
  • Continue to improve STEM education at Duke via our work with COMPASS
  • Increase our research in online learning and other new approaches

Exploring new technologies to support open and online learning

  • Pilot the Open Edx platform to deliver open online courses, supplemental learning materials, and other types of Duke learning experiences
  • Explore adaptive learning tools and platforms
  • Evaluate in-video quizzing tools for local Duke courses

Improve Duke’s eLearning infrastructure

  • Upgrade Sakai in May 2016
  • Explore new tools and integrations possible in the next version of Sakai
  • Provide more opportunities for faculty to explore new experimental technologies through the Duke Digital Initiative

Continue to explore new models for online education

  • Continue the development, launch and evaluation of new specializations
  • Convert selected Duke MOOCs to ‘on-demand’ courses (courses that continuously run on their own)
  • Conduct additional online course experiments with Continuing Studies and Alumni Affairs
  • Support other new Online Duke initiatives
