Sakai

Sakai is Duke’s learning management system managed through a collaboration between CIT and OIT. CIT provides system administration, strategic guidance, evaluation and implementation of new tools and upgrades, and pedagogical support and training.

Peer Assessment for Assignments

Peer assessment/review features were added to the Sakai Assignments tool making it easier for students to provide peer feedback on assignments within Sakai. (read more)

Warpwire replaced Media Gallery (Kaltura)

Warpwire was added as a new tool offering a robust and secure way to share video, audio and images in and outside of Sakai. (read more)

Spring 2015 Faculty Survey Report

CIT surveyed Duke faculty and staff using Sakai in Spring 2015. Over 270 respondents provided great ideas and helped highlight issues with the current version of Sakai. CIT is using this data to plan present and future initiatives. (read the survey summary)

Support

CIT handled over 1,600 Sakai support requests in 2014–15. Other units at the university handled an additional 1,300 Sakai support requests during this timeframe. In 2015–16, CIT plans to reduce the overall number of support requests and provide higher quality self-service support. CIT also maintains Duke’s Sakai support site as an additional resource for Duke faculty and staff working with Sakai.

2014–15 Summary of Duke Sakai Usage

  • 3,672 course sites and 359 project sites published (overall 9% increase over last year)
  • 23,703 unique users: 8,177 students, 2,934 staff, 1,507 faculty
  • 6,150 average unique users per day 
  • 30% of courses have more than one roster attached
  • 62% of sites have high engagement (over 1,000 events)
